Rebate management for Dynamics 365
Even with a strong native stack, the rebate money you’ve earned can slip through the estimate gap — accruals that drift from what you’ll actually owe. Dynamics 365 has the most capable native rebate stack of any mainstream ERP — Trade Allowance Management, a Rebate Management module, vendor rebates, ASC 606 recognition. Where even strong teams still fall back to spreadsheets is the estimate discipline and the audit rebuild. Aurgus sits beside D365 to govern and prove the accrual — reading from it, never touching your general ledger.
Real modules — and a real seam past them
Out of the box, Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management and Finance cover a lot: Trade Allowance Management for customer promotions, bill-backs, and lump-sum deals with bill-back claims; a Rebate Management module that accrues and posts to the ledger and reverses on settlement; vendor rebates in Procurement and Sourcing; and ASC 606 / IFRS 15 revenue recognition. For many programs that's enough. The seam opens on the harder mechanics:
- 01Retroactive tiers as a cliff, not a slope. When crossing a threshold reprices the whole year to dollar one, a flat accrual line under-reserves until the catch-up lands in one quarter.
- 02Probability-weighted estimates and the constraint. Variable consideration has to be estimated, constrained, and re-based every period — with the basis documented, not a blended historical rate.
- 03Vendor rebates under ASC 705-20. Purchase rebates follow the goods — inventory while they sit, COGS as they sell — rather than crediting COGS up front.
- 04The ten-minute rebuild. Rebuilding a posted accrual back to the agreement, the rule, and the source rows — on demand, from any seat — is the test an auditor actually runs.
- 05Mixed estates. A group on D365 plus another ERP needs one governed answer across both — not a module that only sees its own instance.
It complements the module — it doesn't replace it
By design, Aurgus works alongside Dynamics 365 and reads from its exports — agreements, qualifying sales, claims, settlements — governs the rebate and incentive estimate outside it under ASC 606 and ASC 705-20, surfaces exceptions for a human to approve, and writes nothing back to the D365 general ledger. Trade Allowance and Rebate Management keep doing what they do well; Aurgus adds the estimate-and-proof layer on top, so every accrual traces to source the day it's booked. And because it reads rather than lives inside, the same governed answer spans a mixed-ERP group or a migration in progress.
